Dallas Skeer Round 1 Hartwell Club Championships Race Report Penrite Blog Post

Posted on 17 Feb 2016

On February the 13th and 14th the first round of the Hartwell Club Championships was at Broadford. This was my first race meeting for 2016 and it was my first race on the Honda RS 125. The weather was hot on Friday but the rest of the days were a good temperature.

We did Friday practise because I have never rode at Broadford before on the 125. I felt pretty good for a first time on the 125 at Broadford. At the end of the first session I did a 1.08.845. By the end of the day I was feeling pretty comfortable with an end lap time of 1.06.632.

On Saturday first up was the warm up this was only 5 minutes so I had to make use of it all. I felt good and the bike did aswell. I did a 1.05.751 a new PB. In qualifying I had a clear track and maged to qualify 7th on the grid with a time of 1.105.749, and the first 125.

The first race of the weekend was a good race since I was having some good battles with the 400 riders and I was the first 125 and second in the George Carrick. I finished 7th overall and got a new PB of a 1.05.363. The second race and last race on Saturday I managed to get a good start on the 125. I once again had lots of fun battling with the 400 riders and managed to finish 5th outright, 2nd in the George Carrick and 1st in the 125 class.

On Sunday practise I was just getting into the swing of things again. I felt good on the bike and I was ready for another days racing.

The first race was another 4 lap race. I didn’t get the best start and fell back to 10th. Soon passed a 400 down the straight and another two into turn 2. I was getting held up by a 400 rider in front of me for a while and it was hard to pass them as they had more speed than the 125’s. I managed to pass him under brakes at turn one on the last lap. I ran it wide but then managed to bring it back and still hold the position. I caught up to another 400 by the last corner. I got a new PB of 1.04.281. and finished 6th overall, 1st in the 25 class and 2nd in the George Carrick.

The last race of the weekend was by far the best race of the weekend, it was also a 6 lap race. I got a good start and was right behind the Moto3 that was winning the George Carrick. I tried to follow him but his bike was too fast. I soon moved into 6th then 5th the lap after and with 2 laps to go I caught the leading pack that I have been trying to catch all weekend. On the last lap I was trying everything to pass the 400 and move into 4th but his bike was just too fast. I finished 5th overall and once again first 125 and 2nd in the George Carrick and a new PB of a 1.03.913.

This weekend was a great first time out on the Honda RS 125. I managed to get down to only three seconds off the 125 lap record and start the season off leading the 125 class, and 2nd overall in the George Carrick. I wouldn’t be able to do it if it wasn’t for dad and all his hard work he puts in at the track and in the shed. My sponsors have been an awesome help and I would like to say a massive thanks to all of them:
